Chapter Content

Chapter1: The Underpainting
This Full length four hour "Start To Finish" DVD begins with setting our base colour's and blocking in the major shapes of our underpainting. All base colour's are listed and blocked in on screen with full instruction on the process in this chapter.
Chapter 2: Layers & Enhancement Tools
In the second chapter we begin the process of building up the translucent water of the foreground. The viewer will learn how to break up the shapes and patterns of the water and how to break shapes down to their basic elements for detailed painting. We will also learn how to play colour patterns into the waters design to create a 'though the glass' rippled look and feel to our translucent water.
Chapter 3: Creating Cascading Water
Chapter three on disk 1 instructs on how to make splashing, cascading water! In this chapter we will learn how to break up areas into multi sided shapes that are both translucent and reflective. The viewer will learn how to create reflective colours in our cascading water and how to blend them with translucent areas to create action and depth in splashing water. The use of value is essential and is a main theme in this chapters. This is the final chapter on video/disk 1.
Chapter 4: Creating Reflective Water
Video/Disk 2 begins with chapter four which works on the third facet of water: reflective. In this chapter the viewer will learn how to identify different patterns in reflective water and break them down. Once we have reduced these areas we learn how to build up our form and shape to create the patterns. The ability to use colour and value changes are instructed in detail so the painter can create the effect of rolling water through the principles of rhythm and pattern.
Chapter 5: Painting Shadow & Transition
Chapter five instructs on how to create deep shadows and strong values to help create depth in the painting. The use of strong complimentary colours and ranging values help the painter to achieve depth. The chapter finishes off with a demonstration of how to transit from one area to the next with a smooth, soft look.
Chapter 6: Creating Wood Textures
Here we will learn how to use both a warm and a cool pallet to create a cylindrical shape to our wood pilings. The viewer will learn how to block in colour and then break up the underpainting to create an authentic wood look. The use of value change and colour manipulation are main themes in this chapter.
Chapter 7: Painting The Sky
Have you ever wondered how to get a soft smooth looking sky painted in acrylics? This chapter deals with how to use a wet on wet style of painting to create a soft sky. We will also explore the use of mediums in our paint to extend our 'open' time of our paint and learn how to use colour softening techniques to create a soft smooth sky with subtle value and colour transitions.
Chapter 8: Creating a Treeline
This chapter concentrates on the ability to break down a tree-line to create depth and variety, but also maintain consistency and flow along the tree-line. In this chapter we will concern ourselves with the use of colour intensity and the subtle change in hue to create variety and pattern in our tree-line.
Chapter 9: Painting Grass And Reeds
The key to a great looking patch of long grass is pattern and variety. In this chapter we will learn how to break up the grasses into sections and then use line directions and pattern to create a full looking grass texture. The use of subtle colour changes, layering and value manipulation are all part of the instruction in this chapter. As we move on to the background reeds we will learn how to diminish the intensity of our colour to create depth.
Chapter 10: Rendering The Bubbles
The video wraps up with my personal favorite texture, sea foam or bubbles. Instruction is given on how to use a simple touch with well places stokes can create realistic bubbles.
